The Hands and Feet of God

I was recently listening to Tony Robbins on a podcast and heard something profound about how God has designed his Earth and his people. He said, “If you want to see what God loves, go to a Forrest. Every leaf and every snowflake is different – they may have similar structure but they are inherently all unique and different from each other.”

We were all made different and have different gifts. If God made you a hand, don’t try and act like a foot. For me, they look eerily similar – if you saw me walking down the church aisle during my debut as Doubting Thomas in City Church’s production of ‘The Table’, you would have seen toes that closely resemble fingers. But by nature a hand cannot be a foot. One is made for giving and receiving, and one is made for foundation, balance and mobility.

God gave you gifts that you can use to build his kingdom here on earth. If He gave you the gift of exhortation, it’s okay that you’re not the most analytical person or the best planner. Use that gift to encourage someone and speak life over them with your words. If God gave you the gift of planning, it’s okay that you’re not as comfortable talking and socializing – use that gift to organize the church on Sunday or help plan big events.

Whatever you do, don’t try to be a hand when God made you a foot. Romans 12:4-5 reads, “For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.” If we were all feet, we would be blind, deaf and dead. God’s children are beautifully and wonderfully made in His image. Trying to place ourselves into positions we were not meant for is disobedient and disrespectful to God’s will for our lives.
